In Stanton Moor you can find the stone circle of the nine ladies, who supposedly turned to stone while dancing. The stone in the foreground is said to be the fiddler, also solidified.
This prehistoric monument was endangered by plans to re-open a quarry next to it, but after long running protests these plans were revoked.
