At the western end of the Maximillianstrasse stands the Altpoertel, the "old gate", a former town gate, which at 55 m height is one of the tallest in Germany. After the cathedral this is the town's second landmark.
The characteristic feature is the separated clock, hour and minute hand have their own clock face.
