The quietness was only disturbed once, during the night-time Carnival Parade. From 2009 on there was a night parade in the middle of January, starting on Saturday night at 18:11 h. Since this is a family-friendly time, and also there is little else happening, the people were flocking in. It was even difficult to see the parade itself, as the people stood densely packed along the street.
This is already history, since the organisers, the Guggemusik Club "Brezelkracher Speyer", went into financial difficulties and was dissolved. Before that there were arguments with the Speyer town council about the costs of the event, especially the cleaning up, and this was going on for years. The club had complained again and again about the lack of support from the Speyer town council. In June 2015 it was anounced that there will be no more night parades.
